How do I use filters in Osiris for Lecturers/ Supervisors?

In both the ‘Student’ and ‘Results’ menus, Osiris for Lecturers allows you to call up large groups of students at once. To ensure good governance the basis for requesting any student data, is that Osiris will require you to have a particular ‘relationship’ with the student. These relationships are one or more of the following:

  • The user is the student’s currently assigned supervisor.
  • The user is authorised for the student’s degree programme.
  • The user is authorised for the entire institution (cross-faculty authorisation).
  • The student is enrolled to a specific user’s course, with the current academic year not being incorporated as a restriction.

Without a selection filter, Osiris will search all the programmes for which you are registered across all past academic years. The maximum number of students that can be displayed is 500 so without using a selection filter you will run into problems with the display of more than 500 students. Therefore it is advised to always apply a selection filter for specific groups or combinations of students to limit the results.

A selection filter will allow you to limit the search results, making it easier for you to keep track of things. By applying a filter, you can call up a selection of your entire population of students. Using a filter allows you to decide whether certain data is relevant for your purposes.

How exactly to use these filters will be explained in a following chapter. You can, however, create a basic filter setting.
